Ben Chiaro's Award-Winning Design Fuses Function and Elegance

Ben Chiaro Interior Design, led by the visionary Jay Tan, has crafted a workspace that is a testament to luxury and innovation. Opulence is not just an office; it is an experience that draws inspiration from the world's most upscale hotel services. The design aims to leave a lasting impression on its visitors, ensuring that every interaction within the space exceeds expectations and remains etched in memory.

What sets Opulence apart is its bold fusion of an open workspace with the sophistication of a contemporary business club. The design is anchored by a revolutionary lighting scheme that adapts to various tasks and moods, creating an atmosphere that is as conducive to productivity as it is to relaxation. This attention to lighting is particularly crucial in spaces with low chroma and darker tones, where it enhances both functionality and ambiance.

The realization of this design involved a meticulous selection of materials and technologies. The ceiling, a captivating feature of the space, is crafted from plywood overlaid with black-plated mirror stainless steel plates. This choice not only achieves a stunning reflective effect but also addresses practical concerns such as weight, maintenance, and installation flexibility. The result is a ceiling design that is both visually impactful and functionally sound.

Spanning three stories and 4000 square feet, Opulence is a workspace that doubles as a lounge, offering a welcoming and private environment. The design facilitates seamless interactions, from efficient document handling at the bespoke oval reception desk to in-depth discussions in the discreet meeting room or the relaxed lounge area. Each space within the office is meticulously designed to cater to different professional needs while maintaining a cohesive and luxurious aesthetic.

The design journey of Opulence began in March 2023 in Penang, Malaysia, and reached completion in September of the same year. The process was informed by extensive research into the hospitality industry, with the team drawing on insights from hotel guest experiences to replicate a similar level of service within the office environment. This research underpinned the design's focus on convenience, efficiency, and attentiveness, ensuring that the office space would offer an unparalleled experience.

Despite facing challenges such as renovating a 30-year-old house with aging infrastructure and overcoming the presence of pigeon nests, the team's creativity and determination led to a successful transformation. The addition of a new indoor staircase not only improved functionality but also became a design highlight, showcasing the team's commitment to blending practical solutions with aesthetic elegance.

Opulence by Ben Chiaro Interior Design has been recognized for its exceptional design, winning the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Category in 2024.
